Avstralski band je zanimiv vsaj glede štirih stvari.
- Prvič.
allmusic.com jih navaja kot druge po vrsti v rubriki Similar artist moje najljubše action-theme-songs ekipe, The Go! team.
- Drugič.
Na singlu Eleanor put your boots back on škotskih Franz Ferdinand je njihov remix pesmi Fade together, ki jo v originalu najlažje poslušamo na You could have it so much better.
- Tretjič.
Njihovo ime je množinski samostalnik, ki se v edninski obliki pojavi v naslovu enega mojih najljubših komadov Meredith Godreau oziroma njenega Gregory and the Hawk izleta.

Video za Frontier psychiatrist je nedvomno najbolj izviren vseh videov, ki mi jih je youtube serviral danes. Great!
Aja, drugače so The Avalanches relativno zanimivi tudi zato, ker so na njihovem albumu Since I left you uporabili preko 3500 sampleov iz najrazličnejših starih filmov, TV oddaj in ostalih posnetkov. Ampak to je par let prej napravil DJ Shadow, tako da je no news.

Zadnjič, ko sem govoril o Pitchfork.tv, sem že omenil, da brž počekirati band The Thermals, nastopajoč v pilotu oddaje Don’t look down. Indie punk-r’n'r trio iz Portlanda z igipopovskim FU šarmom in endjuvilnovasbajdtrejlofdetovskim prizvokom in attitudeom enostavno zmaga. Sploh prvi album, More parts per million, me je z enostavno perfektno garažno produkcijo takoj osvojil. Druga dva, Fuckin A in The Body, the blood, the machine, sta malo manj nadpovprečna in zvočno za odtenek bolj približana your everyday indie hipsterjevskim MTV2 standardom, pa vseeno zakon!

To je za enkrat drugi najbolj zabaven opis banda na last.fm (prvi je gotovo tale):
Ken and Joe grew up in Massachusetts. Even though they had never met, they both enjoyed the same amusement park. They both liked a ride called the Rotor. You would stand inside the Rotor and it would spin and you would stick to the wall and the floor would drop. Joe once saw someone puke on the Rotor and it stuck to their face until the ride slowed down. Other names for the Rotor are the Gravitron, the Twister, the Vortex, the Turkish Twist and the Starship 2000. Have you ever seen The 400 Blows (Les Quatre Cents Coups)? Ken has never seen anyone puke on the Rotor. Joe and Ken first met while going to college in New Hampshire. Ken studied music, while Joe studied literature. They drank coffee and talked about the theory that whales were once sea creatures and they evolved into wolf-like creatures that ran on land, but they didn’t like it so they evolved back into sea creatures and eventually became huge fucking whales. They formed a band. They can both play guitar and drums, but in GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! Joe taps and plucks while Ken taps and hits. Ken and Joe and their very nice and very attractive girlfriends moved to Santa Cruz, California. They like it there. It’s nice outside. GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! released their debut album “SUPERBASS!!!! (black death greatest hits vol. 1)” in December 2005. They’ve played some fun shows with HELLA, ERASE ERRATA, MAKE BELIEVE, THE ADVANTAGE, ECSTATIC SUNSHINE, GROWING, SHOPLIFTING and billions of other really great bands. LOVES IN HEAT records released the new GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! album “More Skin With Milk-Mouth” on December 8th, 2007.
Duu GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! bi nedvomno namenil pozornost že samo zaradi izvirnih zabavnih naslovov komadov, kot so Fucking ants man! Where they coming from? (Let’s hang the Carroll footnoteitsists) ali …And then she look’d down and saw minitaure houses and miniture people and, inside the miniture people were miniture hearts pumping blood through miniture veins (her mouth was watery and wet) ali She looked up from examining the freckles on her arm and shouted, “Jesus! I’m fucking god-damn tired of all this make-up sex!” and he just stared off. Ampak, there is so much more to it:

Pa ne tisti super komadič Belle & Sebastian, ampak bend iz konca 80ih, ki je sodeloval pri kultni indie twee pop založbi Sarah records. Izdali so le en album, naslovljen London weekend, na njem najdemo par dobrih komadov, ampak še zdaleč nič zastrašujoče izstopajočega. Nedvomno pa je zastrašujoča podobnost vokala pri pesmi You should all be murdered z legendarnim glasom Stephena Patricka Morrisseyja (pa tudi nasploh je vse - kompozicija, sound - zelo slično, razen kitarskega solota - Marr je še bolj Marr, kot je Morrissey Morrissey):
Sicer se vsake toliko časa dogodi, da te kakšen izsek spomni na kaj že slišanega ipd., ampak neglede na to, koliko sem preposlušal The Smiths, bi mi nekdo brez večjih težav prodal ta komad kot kakšen njihov early recording oziroma nekaj v tem smislu. Za primerjavo je spodaj Hand in glove Smithsov (video je fan-made na izseke iz filma A taste of honey):

Z Either/Or Elliotta Smitha imam svojevrstno intimen odnos, zakar sem s tole objavo dlje časa odlašal. V določenih trenutkih precej nedoločenih dni bi ga neizpodbitno proclaimal za najčudovitejšo vseh zvočnih stvaritev, a seveda je tu kup argumentov contra, sploh pa je to čisto zares odvečna debata (se pravi, kontemplacija). O albumu bom nekoč spisal kaj več, danes pa bi za pokušino predstavil 3 priredbe (na jutubu je na kupe amaterskih) njegove Between the bars:
Emily Haines in James Shaw postrežeta z akustičnim live performansom. Do priredbe imam mešane občutke. Po eni strani je krasno slišati njen glas in njegovo besedilo, po drugi pa bi si od njih želel slišati kaj še boljšega. Vseeno, precej kul.
je priredbo posnel v studiu in jo dodal na avtorski prvenec Music for tourists. Posnetek je v živo je zase poseben, ker doda barsko vzdušje in nekaj malega improta izvajalca. Težko bi se odločil, če mi je ljubši kot zgornji od Metric. Počekirajte njegov album v vsakem primeru…
Dekle, ženska, mi je popolna neznanka. Pravijo, da je Billie Holiday 90ih, a tudi tu se hitro izgubim. Prijetna cocorosiejasta interpretacija, z zamaknjenim džezovksim vokalom. Všeč mi je del, ko reče: and IIII’ll kiss you again, pa piano doda svoj čar…
Zdaj sem nekaj časa razmišljal, kaj bi napisal, da bi bilo dovolj očitno, kako irelavantni so zgornji posnetki napram originalu. Ampak, čisto zares, ne vem. Res ne vem:

Dan je res lep. In ne na tak kičast način. Spominja me na konec avgusta, morda prvi teden septembra - takrat veš, da gre poletje h koncu, ker je vse v rumenorjavem. In takrat pašejo The Dismemberment plan, podobno kot v maju pašejo Broken social scene, pa v decembru The Smiths, pa pred kako konkretno julijsko nevihto, takrat ko čutiš, da bo čez petnajst minut zmanjkalo elektrike zaradi strele, Elliott Smith.
